The History of Buddhism Part 1

Buddhism is the teaching of the Buddha also it is well known religion .That religion practiced by an estimated 645 million people in the world.




History of The Buddh



Prince  was born in 623 B.C on Vesak full moon day of may . His name was Siddhartha and he was a Sakya price. His father was King Suddhodana and Mother was Queen Maha Maya.He was born in the Lumbini park at kapilavatthu on the border of Nepal.Also very sad think the mother died seven days after his birth.After that His mother's younger sister , Maha Pajapathi Gotami brought him up.Many wonderful things happened on his birthday , price walked on seven lotuses.Also he said " Aggo Hamasmi Lokassa..meaning is Chief am I in this world .Because he would become a Buddha latter .After five days go  a great sage named Asitha and Kala Devala came to the palace to see him. The king brought the child to pay him due respect so that time the prince's feet turned and rested on the matted locks of the sage .Sage at once rose from his seat and saluted him with joined hands because he know  that the prince would become a buddha in the future .

Name Giving ..

The king invited many learned Brahmins (sage ) to name the prince . He was named Siddhartha which means -wish fulfilled. Six of Brahmins raised two fingers and said that the prince would either become a Universal Monarch or a Buddha but one of a brahmin Kondagnna raised one finger and said that he would surely become a Buddha.The prince was very happy as a royal child also he was a very obedient and good boy and he was even better than his teachers.He was kind to all especially to poor animals also he was very thoughtful.

His Married Life..



Prince Siddhartha married his beautiful cousin Princess Yasodhara. It was the custom in ancient India.She was the daughter of his father sister Pamta, Her father was King Suppabuddha. She had one brother named Devadatta. They led a very happy married life because they agreed with each other in every way.they had three palaces for the three seasons also they were merely enjoying worldly pleasures, living with in the palace.But prince always used to think alone ,He felt pity for all beings.when he visited the park he saw four strange sights ,an old man ,a sick person,a corpse and a noble hermit.He thought that he would get old ,fall ill and die.Then prince was greatly changed and he understood the nature of life. He thought of leaving the world in search of truth and peace.That a son was born unto him , he regarded his first and only son as s fetter .He said Rahu Jatho, A fetter has arisen.He name his son Rahula. He went to the room of Yasodhara , he opened the door and stood at the threshold.He gazed at his wife and child who were fast a sleep . He loved them deeply as loved all also he pitied them and all others. Then without even informing his beloved father, he left the palace at mid-night with Channa, his charioteer he rode into the dark on his favorite horse Kanthaka.He renounced the world in his 29th year.The Prince removed his garments and handed them over to Channa. 



He said ' friend channa take these garments and the horse , and go home , I shall ordain myself.With his sword he shaved his head and beard , and wearing yellow robes he become a monk. Now he become a penniless wandering ascetic.He was called Bodhisaththa which means a wisdom-being ,it is the name given to one who is trying to become a Buddha.He had no fixed abode.He was living in caves or at the foot of trees.Alone he was leading a pure simple life seeking truth and peace .



Struggle For Enlightenment..



He spent fasting a week in the Anupiya Mango Grove,enjoying the bliss of solitude also for food he went from door to door in the streets of Rajagaha seeking alms.The people and king Bimbisara were amazed at the sight of such a noble figure seeking alms in the city also king ordered the people to go and see who he was.The king was pleased to hear his lofty object ism and he invited him to visit his kingdom first after his Buddhahood. Bodhisathwa went at first to a well known ascetic named Alara Kalama and studied his doctrine.He was not pleased with Alara's system because he taught him him up to a certain mental stage only.As he did not get what he sought, he went to another famous ascetic named Uddaka Ramaputta also he was not pleased with his system too because he was seeking Niddana, the end of all suffering .After that he chose Uruvela a beautiful quiet spot and he met five monks Named, Kondagnna. Bhaddiya,Vappa,Mahanama and Assaji attended on him.Bodhisthwa struggle for six long years to gain Buddhahood . He did many penances .He underwent much suffering .He practiced many forms of severe austerity . He tormented his body so much so that his body was reduced to almost a skeleton.His golden colored skin turned pale.His blood dried up.His eyes were sunk .He was almost on the verge of death.


He changed his method as his penances proved useless .He gave up extremes and adopted the middle path .He thought that he needed strength to gain Buddha hood so he gave up fasting and ate some food. the five monks were disappointed and went to Isipatana Leaving Him long.He was happy that he was alone. He felt strong and made a firm resolve not to rise from his seat until he gained Buddha hood .He sat under the famous Bodhi tree at Buddha gaya. He gained the knowledge by which he was able to remember past lives also he obtained the Divine eye by which he was able too see the death and rebirth of beings .He destroyed all passions, understood the four Noble truths and become a Samma SamBuddha. Samma SamBuddha means a fully enlightened or Awakened One. The Bodhisathwa gain his enlightenment on Vesak Full moon day of May . He become a Buddha In his 35th year.He was named The Gotama Buddha.
